Habit science is clear: once a behavior has momentum, maintaining it costs far less willpower than starting it. TaskTroll’s Chore Streak system takes this principle and puts it in the hands of children who understand it viscerally from every mobile game they’ve ever played. When a child completes all their required tasks for the day, their streak counter increments. The number grows, glows, and is visible every time they open the app. Breaking it requires actively not completing tasks on a day when the streak is visible — which is a much higher psychological bar than simply forgetting.

Streaks are protected by Day Off Mode and holiday configurations, so a family movie day or vacation doesn’t wipe out a child’s 21-day run. Milestone badges appear at 7, 14, 30, 60, and 100 days — each with a different visual style and an optional notification to the parent who can then acknowledge the achievement. The badge system is deliberately understated: it rewards genuine consistency without turning every task completion into a celebration, which research shows actually reduces intrinsic motivation over time. The streak itself is the reward, and the milestone badges are the punctuation marks.

Parents can configure streak-based bonuses in the Earned Allowance system — a child who maintains a 14-day streak might earn a $2 bonus on their weekly payout. This connects the habit-building psychology of the streak to the financial literacy dimension of the allowance system, reinforcing both simultaneously. The two features are designed to be used together.

Use-case story: Eight-year-old Zoe had never made it more than four days completing her chores before losing interest.
